The Water Act 2003 extends the opportunities for competition in water supply. Non-household customers who are likely to use at least 50 million litres of water a year at a single site can switch supplier. Suppliers can supply water either by developing their own water source and using Southern Water’s network to transport this to their customer or by buying a wholesale supply of water from us.
As an existing water undertaker we are required to publish a Network Access Code which sets out the basis on which we will allow alternative suppliers to access our network. This code must be in accordance with detailed guidance drawn up by our regulator Ofwat.
