Brambridge Flood Protection

A £4.7 million scheme is underway to reduce the risk of sewer flooding to 25 properties in the Hampshire village of Brambridge.

The scheme is part of Southern Water’s £86 million, ongoing flood protection programme.

It involves the construction of a new underground storage tank in a field next to Kiln Lane, capable of holding more than 1,000,000 litres of stormwater during periods of heavy rain.

The sewers in Church Lane and Spring Lane leading to the new storage tank are also being replaced with larger pipes.

In addition, the pumping station in Kiln Lane is being upgraded to allow it to pass more flows to the wastewater treatment works at Eastleigh Chickenhall, which is also undergoing a £20 million refurbishment.

Southern Water and Hampshire County Council are liaising closely to ensure the disruption to the local community is kept to a minimum.

The construction work started in September in Church Lane and this section has now been completed and the road re-opened in December.

A section in Spring Lane was also completed before Christmas and construction work to connect the new sewers in Kiln Lane completed during January 2009.

The last of the work is currently taking place in the upper section of Spring Lane, with a rolling road closure. This is scheduled to be completed by Easter, 2009.

We appreciate road works can be an inconvenience but we hope residents appreciate they are necessary to help prevent flooding. We thank everyone for their patience while these vital works are carried out.

The project, which is due to complete by the end of 2009, is being carried out by contractors 4Delivery Ltd.
