This plan included the construction of a £10 million back-up pumping station.
  • This means the city is now better protected from flooding during storms
  • The station is completely underground
  • The pumps are housed in a 20 metre-diameter x 15 metre-deep shaft
  • It took two years to build and finished in March 2010, three months ahead of schedule
  • The team was presented with a Considerate Constructors National Site Award in April 2010 and was highly commended by the Institution of Civil Engineers
