Securing water supplies
Millions of pounds worth of work is underway across the Isle of Wight to secure the island’s water supply for future generations.
The largest scheme on the Island is a £15 million project to replace two pipelines which run under the Solent and transfer water from the mainland. Find out more.
In the south of the Island, Southern Water has completed a £2.1 scheme to extend the main water pipeline between Chillerton Water Supply Works and Chale Green to St Catherine's Reservoir.
This allows the reservoir to take water from two different sources and improves the quality and security of supply for residents in Chale, Niton and The Undercliff.
In addition, a new booster station has been built at Chale Street and a water main serving Winford and Apse Heath has been replaced.
Work is also underway at Sandown Water Supply Works to upgrade the treatment processes so the plant can process an extra five million litres of water each day from the River Yar to help supply residents in Sandown, Shanklin and Brading.
