Southern Water has carried out a challenging £15 million project to replace two pipes under the seabed in the Solent which supply water to the Isle of Wight.
The Cross Solent Water Main supplies up to a quarter of the drinking water for the population of more than 130,000 on the island – and thousands more during the summer.
The old pipes had come to the end of their life and have been replaced with two larger 30mm pipes to supply more water which is taken from mainland Hampshire.
