Hosepipe ban unlikely - but please be water wise - 7/7/2010
Southern Water’s reservoirs are in a healthy position and we want them to stay that way.
Therefore, the company reminds customers to continue to use water wisely and not waste it.
Thanks to above average rainfall - from October to June, 734mm of rain fell in the region, compared to the long term average of 638mm - our reservoir levels are higher than last year. More importantly, groundwater levels are above average and are 2.5 metres higher than they were this time last year.
This should see us through the summer months, as long as customers continue to be water efficient.
Water Planning and Strategy Manager Meyrick Gough said: “As we’ve all seen in the media, there are hosepipe restrictions in the north-west of England. We don’t anticipate having to impose a ban in the South East but we ask customers to play their part and use water wisely.”
