Southern Water has no statutory power to object to development plans. However, we do advise the decision makers on the likely impact of proposals on our water and wastewater infrastructure.

Southern Water has a duty to provide water and wastewater infrastructure to serve new developments and works with developers to achieve this.

New water resources may be needed to serve new developments but these would be subject to approval from the Environment Agency. Similarly, new wastewater infrastructure may be needed to meet environmental quality standards set by the agency.
