ICA Technician
Electrician Martin Gray learnt the skills of his trade at Southern Water and even managed to fit in an 18-month cycle ride round the world.
Martin, 33, now works in Tunbridge Wells, in Kent, as an Instrumentation Control and Automation Technician after joining the company in 1992 as an assistant electrician.
During the next seven years Southern Water sponsored Martin on day release courses to obtain his City and Guild and Ordinary National Certificate.
In 1999 the intrepid explorer took an 18-month career break and flew to New Zealand with his bicycle – from where he cycled home!
He rejoined Southern Water in 2001 and during two years on day release obtained his Higher National Certificate in Electrical Engineering.
Now, Martin is enjoying his challenging new role as an ICA technician and learning more about electronics every day.
He said: “Southern Water has invested a huge amount in my training and helped me to progress every step of the way to the position I am in today.”
