A pipe being welded

hydro recovery
We have plans to harness energy from flowing water by installing recovery turbines in the long sea outfalls at four of our wastewater treatment works.

We want to recover energy from wastewater as it flows through the pipes and is recycled to sea after being treated and cleaned at the coastal treatment works in Weatherlees Hill and Broomfeld Bank in Kent, Budds Farm in Hampshire and Brighton and Hove and Hastings, in Sussex.

This recovered energy will offset the energy used to pump the wastewater from people’s homes inland to the wastewater treatment works for treatment.

wind generation
We are carrying out feasibility studies into the generation of renewable energy from wind using wind turbines on our operational sites. These investigations are on-going and we hope to submit a bid for funding for wind power during our next price review by Ofwat in 2014.
