GB SWIM STAR COMES ABOARD
We are delighted to announce that reigning Paralympic and world champion swimmer Sascha Kindred OBE has joined the Southern Water team as he prepares to compete against the world's elite at the 2012 Paralympic Games.
Sascha, who once lived and trained in Crawley, now lives in Hereford and is one of Great Britain’s most successful Paralympic athletes. His medals tally includes six Paralympic, nine world and eleven European gold medals. He has represented Great Britain in four Paralympic games and is one of the favourites to win gold in London 2012.
Sascha will endorse the company’s award-winning Learn to Swim scheme as well as supporting other Southern Water initiatives over the next three years.
Sascha said: “I’m delighted to be involved with a company that takes pride in helping others to achieve their goals. I’m also excited to have the backing of such a big company just ahead of the Paralympic Games in 2012”
Speaking more on the Learn to Swim scheme, Sascha added: “The scheme is close to my heart as many of the children have learnt to swim despite having a disability. It’s something I’m proud to be associated with. I hope I can inspire young swimmers to be the best they can be through hard work and determination”
Sascha, who has cerebral palsy, started swimming at the age of 11 and at 15 represented his country in his first international competition. He has received many accolades for his sporting achievements and was awarded an OBE in 2009 for his services to disability sport.
