We completed our £15 million project to replace two water pipes under the Solent with larger ones to increase the supply of water to the Isle of Wight by nearly 20 per cent.
The increased supply is vital if we are to meet the island’s demand for water, which is expected to rise by 15 per cent with population growth and climate change.
You can see how the scheme unfolded by visiting an award-winning section of our website.
We completed a £7 million scheme to improve the treatment process at Sandown Water Supply Works. This included a new recycling plant, which will save up to one million litres of water a day – enough to fill 10,000 baths.
The plant takes its water supply from the River Yar. Before it becomes drinkable, the water goes through a treatment process, which produces a thin sludge. Specialist equipment has been installed to recover from the sludge more than 90 per cent of the water, which is now being recycled to become drinking water.
We also commenced work on a £3.5 million flood alleviation scheme in Cowes High Street.
