We are nearing completion of a £42 million three-year project to expand Ashford Wastewater Treatment Works.
We are investing £35 million in the recycling centre so that sludge (solid material removed during the treatment process) can be safely recycled to land as an organic fertiliser. We are also spending £7 million to improve the quality of water released to the Great River Stour and new odour control systems are under construction to help deal with smells produced during the treatment processes.
The improvements at the site are designed to cater for anticipated residential and commercial growth in the Ashford area.
Similarly, work continued during the year on a £12 million scheme at Northfleet Wastwater Treatment Works. This will increase capacity, allowing us to meet the growing demand in the area, while improving odour control and the quality of wastewater.
