Water quality
Hundreds of thousands of tests to measure water quality

Water is the most precious of natural resources and the way we look after supplies and deliver them to your taps is vital.

Part of that process is water testing. We carried out 239,053 water quality tests for regulatory purposes. Our scientists tested for more than 100 substances in samples taken from 92 water treatment works, 206 service reservoirs and customers’ taps.

We also carried out a further 409,000 tests to measure samples against our own standards, which are more stringent than those set by our regulators.

Water quality met the standards enforced by the Drinking Water Inspectorate in 99.97 per cent of cases.
