Our business
Record-breaking year

We supplied high quality drinking water to more than one million properties across Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight through a network of 13,618km of mains, 99 supply works and numerous pumping stations and service reservoirs.

Every day, we recycled 1,300 million litres of wastewater from 1.8 million domestic and business properties, transporting it through a network of 21,639km of sewers and 2,248 pumping stations to 371 wastewater treatment works.

While doing this, we were breaking records in our customer service activities. For example, for the first time, we achieved 100 per cent success when responding to billing contacts and replying to written complaints within 10 working days.

Our operational performance during 2008-09 was the best on record. Environmental improvements were also achieved, placing us among the best companies in the industry. These included attaining the internationally recognised standard for environmental management systems and when pollution incidents did occur, we attended site within one hour – an industry first.

We also invested more than £270 million on schemes to improve our services for customers.
