We increased the amount of renewable energy we generated from Combined Heat and Power units by 30 per cent during 2010-11. We also launched investigations into harnessing hydro, solar and wind power.

Working on our principle ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’, we sent less than one per cent of waste sludge to landfill.

We also carried out research to help us adapt to the impacts of climate change in the future and launched a programme to measure our energy use more accurately.
