We began a £265 million programme of improvements at our wastewater treatment works, helping to maintain their good performance for the second year in a row.
All 82 beaches in our region met European standards for water quality, with 68 per cent meeting the 20 times more stringent ‘guideline’ standard.
We started a programme to upgrade nearly 230km of sewers while tackling pollution and smells remained a priority. This included carrying out schemes to reduce the risk of internal and external flooding at more than 100 properties.
