We are carrying out essential water main renewal work at High Street in Whitwell on the Isle of Wight. The old water pipes along High Street and Ventnor Road, Whitwell, have suffered a number of bursts in recent years and have reached the end of their operational life.
We're working with Clancy Docwra to replace 900 metres of the old main with a new, highly durable pipe to safeguard water supplies for the community effectively into the future.
Update January 2018
We're hoping to have all work completed in Whitwell by mid-February, ahead of our March completion date.
You may have noticed already that the road closure at the junction of Nettlecombe Lane is no longer in place after final connections were completed in this road last week.
Final connections to the water main in Ashknowle Lane have also been completed and a lane was opened to residents as planned.
More service transfers were completed in Kemming Road the high street and currently we are looking at completing service transfers to the 12 maisonettes in this road and at Whitwell Farm and the church.
Our final works will require 2-way traffic lights to the south of the village on Ventnor Road.
We'd like to thank everyone for their patience as we've carried out our work in Whitwell and thank Niton and Whitwell Parish Council for allowing us to present the outcome of the scheme at their meeting on February 26.
