Awbridge water main improvements

We are working to replace 3km of water mains in Awbridge to reduce the risk of bursts and ensure we can continue to provide a constant supply of high quality drinking water to our customers.

The road closure on Stanbridge Lane has been in place since 16 January 2017 and has been extended until 19 May. Access for residents has been maintained and we are working closely with the community to minimise any disruption.

We will continue to lay the new water main along Stanbridge Lane and Romsey Road from Kent's Oak to the railway crossing east of Awbridge until the end of April.

Romsey Road will be closed from 26 July until 01 September during the school summer break with work to start at the junction of Danes Lane during the Easter Holidays to avoid disruption to school parking.

The work is being conducted on our behalf by our delivery partner MGjv, whose staff will be available to you throughout the programme of works

We will be completing these works under extended working hours and at weekends

There might be occasions when our staff are not at the working area itself but are carrying out essential activities elsewhere

A combination of traditional 'open cut' techniques will be used alongside advanced 'no-dig' technology to lay the new pipe

Update 8 May:

  • The new pipe has passed all tests and is ready to be connected to the network at the start of next week.
  • Service transfers are nearly complete. We have four planned for next week and the remaining five are scheduled for after the village fete.
  • We will be completing remedial works next week.
  • We remain on course to complete the works in Stanbridge Lane by May 19.

We will provide plenty of notice for customers regarding traffic management plans before the work begins.

Your water supply will be disconnected once the new main is safely in place. We will give you at least 24 hours' notice before disconnection and it will be for no longer than four hours
