Where water comes from

We rely on rain for our water supply.
More than two thirds (almost 70 per cent) of the water we supply comes from boreholes – deep wells which collect rainwater after it has filtered through rock layers.

This ‘groundwater’ is mostly found in huge chalk deposits which are widespread across our region.

A further 23 per cent comes from rivers and the remaining seven per cent from reservoirs.

Rainfall

We rely on winter rainfall to refill reservoirs and top up groundwater storage to see us through the dry, summer months.
