Southern Water will be building a 1km sewer to connect a new housing development, off Winchester Road, just north west of Fair Oak, to its wastewater network.
Work started on March 13, 2017 and will continue for about 30 weeks. The sewer will go along Sandy Lane, Hardings Lane and cross Fair Oak Road.
We started in Sandy Lane, approximately 250m north of the junction with Fair Oak Road. We’ll continue in sections working toward Hardings Lane.
Roads will remain open with temporary traffic lights in place, which will be manually-operated during peak times.
To minimise disruption, we’re aiming to use specialist tunnelling technology where possible, which means we won’t need to dig trenches.
Update 8 August
Last week work commenced to drill beneath the ground between the south side of Fair Oak Road and Sandy Lane. The site team needed to carry out trial holes and dug 18 metres of the tarmac carriageway to reach buried services.
A new 6-metre pipe was installed on Sunday, and has been bedded with shingle and back-filled.
We've started work next to the New Clock Inn at Fair Oak Road and two-way traffic lights are in place. This week we plan to carry out excavation works towards Shorts Road.
There will be construction vehicles in this area - please take extra care near the site.
