Millions of pounds have been invested across the Isle of Wight to secure the island’s water supply for future generations.
Essential works on a main sewer under the River Medina have been completed. The scheme was part of our £10.5 million programme to rehabilitate and replace approximately 30km of sewers across the South East.
At Sandown we invested £700,000 on installing a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant at the wastewater treatment works to capture biogas created during the treatment process.
This gas, which would otherwise have been burnt off in a flare, is then used to produce renewable energy – providing power and heat to the works, with any surplus exported to the National Grid.
