Southern Water’s £1.35 million improvements at its Fittleworth Wastewater Treatment Works are nearly complete.
The treatment works, in Lower Street, serves more than 700 people in the area.
To ensure it continues to meet tight environmental standards, new treatment tanks have been installed and the existing ones have been refurbished and upgraded.
Other improvements have also been made as part of the project, which will ensure the treated wastewater returned to the River Rother is cleaner than before.
The project is now nearing completion and will undergo final testing and commissioning within the next two months.
Philip Jeyaseelan, Southern Water Project Manager, said: “We are pleased to have delivered this important project on time and on budget. The investment we have made will ensure the wastewater treatment works continues to meet tough environmental standards while providing customers in the area with a reliable and more efficient wastewater treatment service.”
The work, which began last May, is being carried out by Southern Water supplier Barhale Trant Utilities.
