Southern Water is replacing 1,600m of water main in Madeira Drive, Brighton. This will reduce the risk of leaks, bursts and interruption to customers’ supplies.
The new pipe will be laid from Duke’s Mound to the Madeira Cafe. To minimise disruption and reduce the number of parking spaces temporarily lost, contractor Clancy Docwra will be laying the new pipe in 50m sections. Access to businesses will be maintained throughout the work.
Southern Water has liaised with the seafront office and Brighton and Hove City Council and has contacted individual customers to explain the scheme.
Construction is due to start on Monday (Dec 3) and should be completed by the end of February.
Southern Water Project Manager Mark Newman said: “These water mains were laid many years ago and although they’ve served us well, they’re starting to show their age.
“Reducing impact is a priority for us and we’ve planned the scheme in a way which will keep disruption to a minimum.”
