Essential works on a main sewer in Cowes are progressing well.
Southern Water began work in November 2012 to replace 550 metres of the old sewer running under the River Medina from Medina Road in West Cowes to the Esplanade in the East with a new 500mm-diameter pipe.
Southern Water contractor Clancy Docwra has now successfully completed the installation of the new sewer, 25 metres under the River Medina.
The new pipeline was drilled and pulled into place using highly specialised equipment and techniques to ensure minimal disruption to the environment.
Southern Water’s Head of Capital Delivery Richard Price said: “We would like to thank the residents for their understanding and patience. We are now continuing with our work to complete the installation of new manholes, sewer connections and general reinstatement of all areas affected by this essential work.”
The work is part of Southern Water’s £10.5 million programme of works to rehabilitate and replace approximately 30km of sewers across the South East.
The work is expected to complete by the end of March 2013.
