Children will dip for wildlife in their new pond, thanks to Southern Water.
Pupils at Gatcombe Park Primary School in St Barbara Way, Hilsea, Portsmouth, will be able to use a range of nets, microscopes and underwater periscopes to take a closer look at pond life.
Funding for the new kit came from Southern Water’s Community Chest programme which provides grants to schools, community groups and good causes.
The pond was completed at the end of last year and is now being left to attract wildlife.
Head Teacher Carole Roberts said: “We are very grateful for Southern Water’s donation because it has enabled us to buy equipment that is really going to help the children learn.”
Kevin Buck, who co-ordinates Southern Water’s Community Chest programme, said: “It sounds like the pond at Gatcombe Park will soon become a haven for wildlife and we were delighted to help the children get a closer look at the creatures that will make it their home.”
