Southern Water warns about bogus callers
30/01/2013

Southern Water is reminding customers to check the identity of people calling at their homes after reports of a bogus caller operating in Worthing.

Sussex Police is appealing for information after a man claiming to be from the company stole cash from a woman in Carnegie Close, Worthing, on January 14.

Southern Water takes the issue of bogus callers very seriously and reminds people to be AWARE of the risk at all times:

Attach your door chain before opening the door to strangers
Water company staff always carry identification
A company uniform and vehicle logos are points to watch for
Remember, if in doubt, keep them out and telephone Southern Water on 0845 278 0845 to confirm their identity
Employees of Southern Water will be more than happy to wait while their identity is verified

Geoff Loader, Director of Communications, said: “The safety of our customers is a priority. If you are in any doubt when someone calls at your home you should ask for their identification card. If in doubt, keep them out and telephone Southern Water on 0845 278 0845 to confirm their identity. Southern Water staff, as well as contractors working for the company, are aware of this procedure and are happy to wait while customers check their identification.”
