The causes of flooding

Flooding has a number of causes and the problems in our region are largely because the ground is saturated after some of the worst weather on record.

In January and February this year the water table rose 10 metres in five days in some areas. This caused underground springs to reach the surface, overwhelming drainage networks and flood sewers. In others parts of the region, overflowing rivers caused a similar issue.
