I am developing a commercial property

Non-household customers can choose who provides their water retail services, such as billing. As a non-household customer, you’ll need to choose a retailer before requesting a connection from them.  A retailer will be allocated if you don’t choose one yourself. Temporary connections, in site welfare facilities, show homes or for temporary building supplies, all need a retailer. Visit Open Water to find out more on the changes and choosing a retailer.

Building a commercial property

When you're building a commercial property, you’re usually going to need a new water connection to our water main, to have a water supply for your property and a connection to the public sewer to take the sewage away. If you’re building multiple commercial properties or a large commercial property that needs a large amount of water, especially water used in industrial processing or factories, you may need a water connection with a large diameter or a new water main. If you need a lot of water, we might need to make some changes to our network to be able to deliver this. To understand your best option and all required work, please send us a pre-development enquiry. We will be able to make the necessary checks and advise on the best option for your project.

Please note that we don’t provide internal meters for commercial properties, only external meters, so that we have easy access to the meter.

Building a block of flats

You’ll probably need a new connection to our water main for water when you’re building flats, as well as a connection to the public sewer to take the sewage away. This also applies to new blocks of flats/apartments or when converting an existing building into flats.

For less than five flats, you’ll need to lay individual connection services to each flat. If you’re building more than five, you’ll need a bulk supply, that you’ll separate internally. You’ll be able to choose between the boundary/bulk meter or individual meter.

Depending on how much water you’re going to use, you might need to apply for a new water main. If you’re building a large apartment complex, you’ll need to check the best way for you to get the water supply. If you need a lot of water, we might need to make some changes to our network to be able to deliver this. To understand your best option and all the required work, please complete a pre-development enquiry. We’ll be able to make the necessary checks and advise on the best option for your project. You have an option to provide your own meter carriers. Please refer to our guidelines for installing internal meters in new flats.

You’ll also need to apply for a sewer connection, if you’re disposing of wastewater into our sewer. Any sprinkler system for your commercial property can be requested using a standard water connection application.

Please check our pages Water Connection, Sewer Connection , New Water Main to understand if these applications are right for your project.
