Durrington Schools save 4,944 litres of water per day
In West Sussex, Durrington Infant and Junior School used our free water-saving audit to look for leaks in their toilet facilities and pipes.
At Durrington Junior School, a visit by our water-saving experts found and fixed three leaks, saving 1000 litres of water per day. This was followed by fitting three water efficiency devices giving a saving of 102 litres of water every day. Water-saving devices can help reduce the flow of water in taps or in toilet cisterns, so they reduce the amount of water used each time a tap is turned on or a toilet is flushed. The school’s total saving was 1102 litres per day.
The water-saving audit at Durrington Infant School found two leaks and once fixed, a saving of 400 litres of water per day was made. Further reductions in water use came when five water efficiency devices were installed, saving 3,422 litres of water per day. In total, the work has saved the school 3,842 litres of water every day.
Between the two schools, the free water-saving audits helped them save a total of 4,944 litres per day. We’re looking forward to working with other schools across our region using this approach.
Durrington Infant and Junior school said: ‘This free service has reduced the amount of water used in toilet flushing alone by a third. We are looking forward to seeing the difference this will make in our bills’.
Kim Turnbull, Water Saving Manager, said: “It’s great to be working with local schools to save water with our free water-saving audits. With population growth and climate change in the South East, there’ll be more people and less water in the future, so finding ways to reduce water usage really helps – and the schools may save some money off their bills too”.
Water Saving Audits are available to schools and businesses across our region. If we supply water to your school or business, you can apply for this free service, which looks for leaky loos and provides water saving devices suitable for your needs.
