Water Neutrality
On 14 September 2021, Natural England issued a Position Statement for planning applications within the Sussex North Water Supply Zone. Information collected by Natural England shows that water abstraction for drinking water supplies may be having a negative impact on the wildlife sites in the Arun Valley. They have advised that any new development that takes place must demonstrate that it will not add to the risk of this detrimental impact.
Donating to support the work of the South Downs National Park
The South Downs National Park Trust, the official charity of the South Downs National Park, is a small organisation with big ambitions. Our £10,000 donation will go towards the restoration of a network of ponds, one of the charity’s big projects, to improve water quality for the benefit of wildlife and endangered species such as great-crested newts.

Welcome to Water for Life Hampshire
Our world is changing – the twin pressures of more extreme weather events and a growing population are stretching our finite natural resources, including water. This challenge is felt strongly in the water-stressed South East, particularly in Hampshire following new rules over how much water we can take from the county’s two main rivers – the Test and Itchen.
Using wetlands as a low carbon, nature-based solution to cleaning wastewater
It’s great to work on this unique and innovative project, but it’s a real challenge too. Cleaning wastewater is difficult and expensive, so when I was given the opportunity to work on one of the first projects of its kind in England using wetlands to refine the treatment of wastewater, I was enthusiastic about getting started.
River levels
In some areas, we rely on rivers for the water we supply to our customers. However, the twin pressures of more extreme weather events and a growing population are stretching these finite natural resources.
