Water Neutrality
On 14 September 2021, Natural England issued a Position Statement for planning applications within the Sussex North Water Supply Zone. Information collected by Natural England shows that water abstraction for drinking water supplies may be having a negative impact on the wildlife sites in the Arun Valley. They have advised that any new development that takes place must demonstrate that it will not add to the risk of this detrimental impact.

The Environment Agency requires wastewater companies to submit to the EA their plans for managing groundwater infiltration of the sewers in catchments where, due to the high water table following excessive persistent rain, tankers and over-pumps are sometimes used to take away flows and ensure our customers' bathroom, kitchen and toilet facilities are protected.
Using wetlands as a low carbon, nature-based solution to cleaning wastewater
It’s great to work on this unique and innovative project, but it’s a real challenge too. Cleaning wastewater is difficult and expensive, so when I was given the opportunity to work on one of the first projects of its kind in England using wetlands to refine the treatment of wastewater, I was enthusiastic about getting started.
