We’re upgrading 3.6km of water mains from West Harting to Nursted to ensure a reliable supply of high-quality drinking water for our customers.
The modern and durable new pipework will replace the existing mains, which is starting to show signs of age, and will help reduce the risk of leaks and bursts.
Our construction partner Clancy Docwra started preliminary investigation work on 12 March and will begin laying the new pipework from 30 April.
Where possible, we’ll be using ‘no-dig’ technology to install the new mains, which will mean less disruption for our customers. We will need to operate some road closures as the scheme progresses – these will be advertised in advance and we’ll contact customers and businesses who are immediately affected.
In some cases, we may need to temporarily interrupt water supply while we connect the new mains onto our customers’ service pipes. In theses cases, we’ll give 48 hours’ notice first.
We’re committed to completing the scheme as quickly as possible, so we’ll be working from 8am until 6pm from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 2pm on Saturdays and from 9am to 12pm on Sundays. We may also need to carry out additional work outside these hours at times.
A customer drop-in session to find out more about the scheme will be held on 19 April from 3.30pm – 6.30pm at Harting Community Hall on Tipper Lane, South Harting. The project team will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
Work is expected to be completed by winter 2018.
