Flooding on the Isle of Wight affecting operations

Following extremely heavy rain over the past week on the Isle of Wight, there is extensive surface water flooding across the island.

UPDATE 09:00 Sunday 29 October

All customers on the Isle of Wight are back in supply this morning. Heavy rain over the past week continues to affect our water network, with many of our sites flooded.   

Our teams have been working through the night to increase our water production levels and we’re pleased to say that these are slowly recovering. We’ll continue to work 24/7 to keep services running as normal. 

We’re keeping an eye on the weather and preparing in case of more heavy rain so we can mitigate any further impact on our customers.  

We don’t expect anyone on the island to lose supply today, but as a precaution we've already: 

  • delivered bottled water to customers, including vulnerable customers and some care homes 
  • set up bottled water station locations, with teams and stores on site 
  • Brought a fleet of 12 tankers over to the island to help support the recovery of the network. 

We'll provide further updates here as the situation progresses.

UPDATE 22:35 Saturday 28 October

We’re sorry Ventnor may be experiencing low pressure or loss of supply. This is because heavy rain and flooding have overwhelmed some of our sites. Our teams are working 24/7 to get supplies back to normal as soon as possible.  

We delivered bottled water to customers on our Priority Services Register. If you or anyone you know needs to join our register, please call 0330 303 0368.   

We don’t expect any more customers to lose supply, but as a precaution we’ve been: 

  • delivering bottled water to customers, including vulnerable customers and some care homes on the island 
  • setting up bottled water station locations, with teams and stores on site 
  • using tankers to help support the recovery. 

We'll provide another update in the morning as the situation progresses. 

10:20 Saturday 28 October

All customers are still in supply this morning. Heavy rain earlier this week continues to affect our water network and we’re working 24/7 to keep services running as normal.  

Teams have been working through the night to increase our water production levels at a number of sites impacted by flooding. They'll continue to work 24/7 over the weekend. 

We’re monitoring and preparing in case of more heavy rain. As we recover the network, we’re working hard to mitigate further impacts.  

We don’t expect any customers to lose supply, but as a precaution we’ve been: 

  • delivering bottled water to customers including vulnerable customers and some care homes
  • setting up bottled water station locations, with teams and stores on site
  • using tankers to help support the recovery.

We'll provide another update this evening as the situation progresses.  

Update 1200 Friday 27 October

All customers remain in supply this morning. Following the heavy rain this week that impacted our water network we continue to recover services to normal.

Our teams worked through the night to keep customers in supply and will continue to work 24/7 over this weekend.

Water supplies to our customers are stable, however as we fully recover the network back to normal service there remains some risk. We are monitoring and preparing in case there are other weather impacts. We don’t expect to interrupt supply and continue to work to return service back to normal.

As a precaution:

  • we have been delivering bottled water to customers including vulnerable customers and some care homes
  • have planned bottled station locations and the water to supply these
  • we are using tankers to help support the recovery

 

UPDATE 1430 Thursday 26 October

Following the heavy rain in the last few days our water network is continuing to recover and our teams are still working around the clock to keep customers in supply.  

We are monitoring and preparing in case there are other weather impacts as we recover the network. We don’t expect to interrupt supply and continue to work to return service back to normal.  

As a precaution: 

  • We have been delivering bottled water to customers including vulnerable customers and some care homes 
  • Have planned bottled station locations and the water to supply these 
  • We are using tankers to help support the recovery. 

We plan to provide another update tomorrow morning before 10am.

 

UPDATE 0920 Thursday 26 October

Following the recent heavy rain on the Isle of Wight (97mm), we have been recovering the network. There is no immediate risk to loss of supply to customers.  

Our teams continued to work hard through the night to keep all customers in supply and are in a better position this morning. However, while we fully recover our network back to normal there remains a risk of disruption.   

Our incident teams continue to work on full recovery of the network. We are monitoring the situation and weather pattern so that we can prepare to respond should anything change. 

As a precaution we are taking these actions to minimise potential impacts on customers:  

  • We have delivered bottled water to customers on our Priority Services Register in the areas  
  • We have identified bottled water station locations and infrastructure as a precaution 
  • We are using tankers in the area to support the recovery  

We will provide a further update this afternoon before 4pm. 

 

ORIGINAL POST 1330 Wednesday 26 October

Following extremely heavy rain through Tuesday evening and into Wednesday morning on the Isle of Wight, there is extensive surface water flooding across the island.

This is making operations at wastewater pumping stations and water supply works much more difficult than normal.

Our teams are working extremely hard to keep customers' taps running and to minimise risks of wastewater flooding.

We are also assisting partners with flooding reports in the Southsea area of Hampshire.
