Getting ready for Storm Ciarán

The weather forecast is looking stormy, with heavy rain and high winds forecast across our region. As flooding is more likely during a storm and high winds can affect power supplies to our sites, we’re already taking action to keep the taps and drains flowing. Here’s how we prepare and what you can do during the bad weather.

We’re preparing for whatever the weather may bring

When stormy weather is coming our way, we make sure there are more people on call across our teams – including our maintenance team – as well as adding additional assistance on sites 24/7 so that we can respond to any issues quickly. In case there are problems, we have put water tankers on standby with additional wastewater tankers at the ready, and mobile power generators are on hand. We’re also preparing our control room operators for dealing with any incidents or giving on-site support.

For a water or wastewater emergency, we’re here to help

If you have no water or if you experience flooding in your home, you can find out what to do in an emergency. At priority locations in our region, we keep enough bottled water ready at bottled water stations to support any customers with an interruption to their water supply. If you think you might need a bit of extra support if the water supply gets disrupted, find out more about our Priority Services Register.

Our incident map tells you what’s happening in your area

You can see any incidents in your area or if there is any significant work going on, using our interactive map. This includes information about how many residents are affected and how long we expect the work to last.

Working together with other companies and services

It’s not just the emergency services that we keep in touch with during a storm, we also work closely with stakeholders, including the media, councillors, MPs and local resilience forums. Working together helps keep everyone updated on the current situation and the forecast, keeping any disruption to our customers to a minimum.
