About the reservoir

Powdermill Reservoir on a frosty winter day

Powdermill Reservoir

Powdermill Reservoir is a water reservoir that mainly supplies Hastings and the surrounding area. It stretches across 56 acres and the reservoir has a capacity of over a billion litres of water.

While the reservoir itself isn't open to the public, the surrounding peaceful woodlands are a great place to go walking and spend time in nature.

Woodland walks

Many trails weave through the nine ancient woodlands that surround the reservoir. From some of these trails, you'll be able to catch scenic views over the reservoir itself.

The Brede High Woods are home to many species of birds, animals and insects. If you're lucky you may even be able to spot the roaming herds of fallow deer.

You also won't want to miss visiting in the spring when the woods become carpeted by bluebells. Please note that most of these trails are not surfaced and can become very muddy after heavy rain.
