Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) valves

This section explains our approach to Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) valves. These are devices that protect against backflow. This provides protection against the contamination of mains water supply.

background

Our approach to RPZ valves

Application

Where an RPZ valve assembly is to be installed by a non-approved contractor, you must notify us in advance. You can do this by completing an application form and providing a plan of the proposed installation.

Notification of Plumbing

Here you can find helpful information for filling in the notification form for proposed plumbing works. We've also added an explanation of what works you'll need to notify us about.

Installation

‘Approved Installation Method AIM-08-01’ provided by WRAS (Water Regulations Approval Scheme) sets out the requirements for installation, on-site testing and maintenance.

Annual testing

We are required to monitor all RPZ valve installations in our water supply area. They must be tested and certificated on an annual basis. We or another accredited tester can carry this out.

We'll give you advanced notification of the test due date. We can also provide a quotation for the cost of the work.
