Saving water in your business

Water is a precious resource. Every year the population of the South East grows, but the amount of available water remains the same. There are plenty of things you and your business can do to help save water.

Why your business needs to save water

Climate change and a growing population mean we’ll need an extra 1.1 billion litres of water every day by 2040 just to meet demand. With pressure on supplies increasing, it’s more important than ever to rethink how we use and value water.

We’re committed to supporting our customers in reducing their water use — aiming for average consumption of 100 litres per person per day by 2045, and a 9% reduction in business water use by 2037.

There are many simple ways your business can cut water use and lower costs — from fixing leaks and installing efficient equipment, to capturing rainwater and helping colleagues use water more wisely. Small changes really do add up. By working together, we can protect our future water supplies and the environment for generations to come.

Put up signs to remind colleagues to turn off the tap after washing their hands and to keep showers to under four minutes. You could also set water‑use targets for your workplace and encourage everyone to get involved.

Use dual‑flush toilets instead of older pull‑chain ones to reduce water use with each flush. Switch your regular tap valves to low‑flow versions to save even. If you have a dedicated sink for washing pots and pans, fit it with pre‑rinse valves to save there too.
