Paying your bill by Direct Debit

Learn more about Direct Debits including how they are calculated and how they can help you budget better.

background

Why pay by Direct Debit?

Direct Debit is one of the easiest and most convenient ways to manage and pay your bill – making it the most popular way to pay. It lets you spread the cost of your water bill across the year, or billing period, instead of making one big payment. You’ll also know exactly what to expect every time you pay.

There are lots of other benefits too:

  • It helps you to budget better
  • Saves you time - no need to call, click or queue to pay
  • Payments are taken automatically so you won’t need to remember to pay

I don't have a water meter - how is my Direct Debit calculated?

If you don’t have a water meter, your bill will either be:

  • Unmetered – based on your property’s rateable value, or
  • Assessed – based on the number of bedrooms in your home.

These charges are fixed and not linked to how much water you use. Your Direct Debit is calculated by dividing the total cost for the billing period into manageable monthly or six-monthly payments. We review and update your payments each year based on our current household charges.

Direct Debit Guarantee

A Direct Debit Guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that accept instructions to pay Direct Debits.

If there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your Direct Debit, we’ll let you know 10 working days before the money is taken from account or as otherwise agreed. If you ask us to collect a payment, confirmation of the amount and date will be provided at that time.

If an error is made in the payment of your Direct Debit, by us or your bank or building society, you’re entitled to a full and immediate refund of the amount paid from your bank or building society – if you receive a refund you are not entitled to, you must pay it back when we ask you to.

You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by simply contacting your bank or building society
