Paying your bill by Direct Debit

Learn more about Direct Debits including how they are calculated and how they can help you budget better.

background

How is my Direct Debit calculated?

Paying by Direct Debit is one of the easiest and most convenient ways to manage your bills. It spreads the cost evenly, so you know exactly what to expect every time you pay.

Your Direct Debit may have increased to reflected our updated prices, you can find out more information around why bills have gone up.

If you have a water meter, your Direct Debit is based on:

  • Your estimated water usage
  • Any outstanding balance or credit on your account

We use meter readings to predict your usage. If you’ve just moved in and haven’t had a reading yet, we estimate based on the number of people in your household.

We regularly review your account. If your usage changes or your balance goes up or down, we may adjust your Direct Debit payments to keep them accurate and avoid debt building up. Direct Debits are usually taken monthly or when a bill is issued, typically every six months.

If you don’t have a water meter, your charges are based on a fixed rate rather than usage. Most unmetered or assessed accounts pay their Direct Debits annually or over 10 months. We calculate your payments each year based on our current charges.

Direct Debit Guarantee

A Direct Debit Guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that accept instructions to pay Direct Debits.

If there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your Direct Debit, we’ll let you know 10 working days before the money is taken from account or as otherwise agreed. If you ask us to collect a payment, confirmation of the amount and date will be provided at that time.

If an error is made in the payment of your Direct Debit, by us or your bank or building society, you’re entitled to a full and immediate refund of the amount paid from your bank or building society – if you receive a refund you are not entitled to, you must pay it back when we ask you to.

You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by simply contacting your bank or building society
