Eastbourne customer drop-in event

Our Clean Rivers and Seas Task Force are preparing to host an Eastbourne customer drop-in.

The event, on Wednesday 16 April, will focus on water quality along the town's coastline - currently rated as ‘Good’.

Other teams from around the business will also be ready to chat to visitors, including the Illegal Connections Team and Bathing Water Team.

Doors open at 3pm and close at 7pm, at the Grange Room, Devonshire Quarter, College Road, Eastbourne, BN21 4JJ.

MP for Eastbourne Josh Barbarinde, will be attending. He said:

“I’ve been pressing Southern Water to improve the quality of bathing water on our 94 beautiful beaches. I’m pleased that the team are coming to Eastbourne to tell us more about their plans for our area and give Eastbourne folks a chance to share their concerns. I will continue to hold Southern Water to account for the improvements that our town needs and deserves”

Rob Butson, Open Water Improvement Lead at Southern Water, added:

“We have developed an improvement plan for Eastbourne, where we have deployed our Illegal Connection Team in the area. This has already proved to be successful and found a café that had its pipes connected to the surface water system in error, which our engineers have fixed. A single misconnected toilet can dump 20,000 litres of waste straight on to the beach.

“We continue to work with local authorities and other partner organisations to identify all likely sources of pollution, illegal connections and private drainage."

We are committed to cutting the use of storm overflows through a £1.5bn Clean Rivers and Seas Plan, and we are also working hard to track down problems in our network and private pipes as quickly as we can.
