Isle of Wight stream to benefit from wastewater works upgrade
We have successfully completed a £4.5 million project at Calbourne Wastewater Treatment Works – boosting the health of the local environment.
Improving Calbourne Wastewater Treatment Works
The work will significantly improve the quality of treated water which enters the Caul Bourne stream.
The upgrade at Calbourne includes the installation of a new ferric dosing system, a new tank, and the refurbishment of the site’s reedbeds—natural filtration systems that help further clean wastewater before it is returned to the environment.
These improvements are part of our wider commitment to improving environmental performance and protecting the Island’s precious water environment.

The work follows from other projects on the Isle of Wight to improve bathing water quality with £21m recently being invested and a further £99m being invested in this area.
One of the major projects Southern Water is expected to complete is £17m worth of improvement works at Sandown Wastewater Treatment Works by the end of the year.
