Hastings pupils question Southern Water's CEO
Students at The St Leonards Academy sat down with our CEO Lawrence Gosden to discuss topics from water outages to infrastructure.
Lawrence met members of the school council on Friday (September 26) to answer their questions about the water company.
Asked about last year’s burst main, he told the group about Southern Water’s plans to build a back-up pipe as part of our multi-million pound investment in Hastings.
On the topic of bathing water, Lawrence recommended our live Rivers & Seas Watch, and detailed our commitment to reducing the use of storm overflows.
He also explained how we are working to secure future water supplies through building new water recycling facilities.
The CEO said: “It was fantastic to meet such an engaged and informed group of students. They didn’t shy away from pressing me on the tougher topics, and their questions showed a real understanding of the range of issues facing the water sector at the moment.”
Billy Thompson, Associate Assistant Principal of St Leonards Academy said: “The Southern Water Round Table with the CEO was a powerful opportunity for student voices to be heard. Their engagement showed a clear understanding of the challenges and solutions ahead, and the event highlighted how community collaboration can lead to meaningful and positive outcomes for everyone.”
