New customer committee holds leader to account

Our CEO faced questions about our performance when the Independent Customer Scrutiny Committee held its first official meeting this month.

The body was formed earlier this year to provide robust, external, and independent scrutiny of our activities, priorities, and long-term planning from the perspective of customers.  

Lawrence Gosden responded to scrutiny on a range of subjects at the recorded event. 

Topics discussed included:

  • CEO remuneration.
  • Our turnaround plan.
  • Improving infrastructure.
  • Customer communications.
  • Company finances.
  • Customer vulnerability and support.

The committee is entirely independent from Southern Water’s governance, management, and operational decision-making – and is led by Chair Dan McDonald, CEO of Citizens Advice Medway and a local councillor.

The committee will meet every quarter to help us stay focused on what matters most to customers. Each session will be shared unedited on our website and open for anyone to watch. The next one will be in November and will focus on Customer Service.
