New water-saving competition for schools

Our Water Protectors module for primary schools is helping pupils understand the importance of saving water, and your school can win a our Hydro Heroes water-saving competition.

Calling all primary schools

Pupils across our region are challenged to design a Hydro Hero – a superhero inspired by a local animal with a real-life, water-saving superpower. 

Win great prizes in our Hydro Hero competition: 

  • 4 x county winners: £50 Amazon voucher for the individual winner, plus sustainability books (worth £300) and water bottles for the whole class. 
  • 4 x county runners up: £25 Amazon voucher for each runner up, plus water bottles for the class. 

Deadline for entries: Friday 5 June 2026 

Track your water use for a week to win extra prizes  

We’re offering schools who track their weekly water use more great prizes. As an extension of our Hydro Hero competition, your class can track their water use for a chance to win:  

  • 4 x county winners: £300 worth of garden sustainability vouchers, a year’s subscription to We Are Cress (worth £600) who help reduce school uniform costs, raise funds and demonstrate your sustainability, plus water bottles for the class. 
  • 4 x county runners up: A set of James Carter non-fiction poetry books; bringing science to life, plus a set of water bottles for the class. 

Three simple steps to enter

  1. Register and download your competition pack, in the Water Protectors module link, you’ll also find details of our assembly here that you can use to launch the competition.
  2. Hand out superhero design sheets to every child so they can get creative.
  3. If entering the extra competition – give out the water tracking sheet to every child so they can record their water saving across one week and record these on the class poster.
  4. Enter your entries by June 5 2026.
