Leak repair work - Southampton

We're sorry for the disruption our works at the Redbridge flyover in Southampton is causing

Redbridge flyover - eastbound carriageway closure and leak repair

UPDATE 4.20pm May 23

We will now be scaling back our work to detect the leak at the Redbridge flyover.

Following agreement with colleagues at Hampshire County Council and Southampton City Council the eastbound carriageway will reopen at around 3am on Saturday morning

We have made significant progress on pinpointing the leak, and we will carry out further surveys and investigations.

Our teams will be exploring options for whether we come back and carry out work for a shorter period, or other solutions that will be less disruptive including moving water around our network to bypass this water main.

Any future dates for further work or closures will be communicated to all nearby customers and stakeholders.

We're sorry for the disruption and inconvenience our work has caused this week and we will take away lessons from this to look at new ways we can reduce our impact on the wider road network when carrying out work of this nature.

We’re sorry for the continued disruption that our work to find a leak at the Redbridge flyover is causing.

Unfortunately our teams have been unable to pinpoint this leak which is deep in our underground network of pipes. Work to locate it will continue over the next two days.

Reinstatement of the road surface has started and will take time to complete due to the nature of the road surface. During this time there will be a minimal presence of our teams as we allow the concrete to cure. Our aim is to have the eastbound carriageway of the flyover reopened before midnight on Friday.

Drivers travelling into Southampton can use a diversion from the A35 to the Redbridge roundabout leading to the A33 Redbridge Road. We will issue another update about these works tomorrow (May 22)

We’re sorry for the continued disruption that our work to find  a leak at the Redbridge flyover is causing.

Ahead of the Bank Holiday weekend we have taken the decision to reopen the Eastbound carriageway of the Redbridge flyover before Saturday morning.

The work involved in pinpointing this leak is complex as it is a non visible leak that is deep in our underground network of pipes, which means we are using various methods to locate it.

We have made progress in narrowing down the area where this leak could be, and we’re confident that when we return at a later date this work will take less time thanks to the new data and insights our detection work has provided.

Reinstatement of the Redbridge flyover will begin later today, but this will take time to complete due to the nature of the road surface and curing of concrete. Our aim is to be off-site by late Friday evening.
