We recently caught up with our Early Careers Partner, Richard Griffiths to bust some common apprenticeship myths wide open!
Myth: Apprenticeships are low-quality training options and don’t lead to qualifications.
Busted: Think again! Our apprenticeships cover everything from Higher National Certificates (HNC) and Higher National Diplomas (HND) to masters-level degree apprenticeships. The programmes provide solid training and qualifications that set you up for success.
Myth: Apprentices only do low-skilled work, it’s not a real job.
Busted: Far from it! Our apprentices throw themselves into meaningful work from day one. They follow structured training plans and competency criteria, which means they contribute effectively to their roles and their team’s success from the get-go.
Myth: Apprenticeships don’t offer the same opportunities as degrees.
Busted: Apprenticeships can be just as valuable as traditional degrees. We offer numerous pathways leading to degree-level roles in areas like Environmental Science, Digital Technologies, Data Analysis, and Procurement.
Myth: Apprenticeships are only for operational teams.
Busted: Nope! Our programme is incredibly diverse spanning across all areas of the business. Whether you’re interested in Finance, IT, Procurement, Water Management, Waste Management, Engineering, Construction, or Human Resources, there’s an apprenticeship for you with us.
We asked one of our youngest apprentice Engineers, Alfie, about why he enjoys his role and here’s what he had to say:
“I prefer a hands-on type of approach to work and like problem solving. The company offer great career prospects and I’m excited about my future at work.
“My favourite thing about the work so far is meeting new people. I have learnt so much from speaking with people who have lots of experience. They are great role models.
“I’m hoping to have a Level 3 Qualification in Maintenance and Operations Engineering at the end of my apprenticeship!”
